Overview
The VLT Midi Drive FC 280 is Danfoss's compact drive for machine builders from 0.37 to 22 kW, replacing the VLT 2800 with the same footprint for simple retrofits. It includes Safe Torque Off (SIL2/PLd), a built-in brake chopper and EMC filter (C1/C2), and offers fieldbus variants for PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, EtherCAT, PROFIBUS and CANopen in addition to standard Modbus RTU. The control panel is detachable, and parameters are copied between drives with the LCP; MCT 10 software and the VLT Motion Control Tool support commissioning. The example code is a 2.2 kW 400 V unit with the EMC filter and brake chopper; we build the type code for fieldbus, coating and keypad options.
Key features
- 0.37–22 kW, 3 × 380–480 V (and 1 × 200–240 V); overload 150 % for 60 s
- Safe Torque Off SIL2 / PL d built in; brake chopper and C1/C2 EMC filter
- Modbus RTU standard; PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, EtherCAT, PROFIBUS, CANopen variants
- Same footprint as VLT 2800 for retrofits; side-by-side mounting, 50 °C without derating
- Detachable LCP with parameter copy; MCT 10 commissioning; coated PCBs option
Typical applications
- Conveyors, mixers and packaging machines
- Pump and fan control on skids
- Textile and woodworking machinery
- VLT 2800 replacements

Frequently asked questions
Can the FC 280 replace a VLT 2800 directly?
Yes. The FC 280 was designed with the same mounting footprint and similar terminal layout as the VLT 2800, and a parameter conversion is available in MCT 10.
Does the FC 280 include Safe Torque Off?
Yes. STO (SIL2 / PL d) is standard on all FC 280 variants, so an external safety contactor is not required for most machine e-stop circuits.
Is the FC 280 available from stock, and what is the lead time?
Standard 400 V ratings with Modbus are typically 1–3 weeks; fieldbus variants 3–5 weeks. We confirm with the quotation.
