Overview
The Red Lion DA10D is a protocol converter and data acquisition unit programmed in Crimson 3.1: it reads data from PLCs, drives, meters and instruments using any of more than 300 built-in drivers (Siemens S7, Rockwell, Mitsubishi, Omron, Modbus, DNP3 and others) and makes it available over other protocols, a web server, OPC UA or MQTT (Sparkplug B, AWS, Azure). Two independent Ethernet ports and two serial ports allow it to bridge networks, and the SD card logs data for later retrieval. Typical uses are connecting legacy equipment to a new SCADA, aggregating energy meters, or publishing machine data to an IIoT platform without touching PLC programs. The DA30D version adds more serial ports and I/O options.
Key features
- Crimson 3.1 with 300+ protocol drivers: Siemens, Rockwell, Mitsubishi, Omron, Schneider, Modbus, DNP3, BACnet
- 2 × Ethernet (independent) and 2 × serial (RS-232/422/485); protocol conversion in any direction
- OPC UA server, MQTT (Sparkplug B, AWS IoT, Azure), web server with custom pages
- Data logging to SD card, FTP/sync; email/SMS alerts
- DIN rail, 24 V DC, -20…+60 °C; UL Class I Div 2
Typical applications
- Connecting legacy PLCs and drives to new SCADA
- Energy-meter aggregation over Modbus to MQTT/cloud
- Protocol bridging between OEM machines and plant PLC

Frequently asked questions
Can the DA10D read a Siemens S7-1200 and write to a Rockwell PLC?
Yes. Crimson maps tags between any two drivers; the DA10D polls the S7 over Ethernet and writes the values to the Rockwell controller via EtherNet/IP without PLC program changes.
Is Crimson software expensive?
Crimson 3.1 is free; all drivers are included with the hardware, which is one of the main advantages over per-driver licensing.
Is the DA10D available from stock, and what is the lead time?
Typically 1–3 weeks from Red Lion regional stock. We confirm with the quotation.
