VEGA VEGAFLEX 81 Guided Wave Radar Level Sensor (FX81.CXAGEDHAMAX) — product card

Overview

VEGAFLEX 81 is VEGA's guided-wave (TDR) radar for liquids, used where non-contact radar struggles: low-dielectric hydrocarbons, bypass chambers, foam and tanks with internal obstructions. Rod and coaxial probes cover short vessels; cable probes reach 75 m in deep tanks. It measures interface between two liquids and also reports the total level. Temperature and pressure versions span -196 °C cryogenic to +450 °C and 400 bar, with second-line-of-defence sealing. Like all plics sensors it is commissioned via Bluetooth with the VEGA Tools app and shares the PLICSCOM display; SIL2/3 qualification covers overfill and safety loops. The example code is a rod-probe HART unit with 316L process connection.

Key features

  • Guided-wave radar for level and interface; rod, coaxial or cable probe up to 75 m
  • Accuracy ±2 mm; dielectric constant from 1.6 (1.4 with probe-end tracking)
  • High-temperature/pressure versions -196…+450 °C, up to 400 bar with second line of defence
  • Measures reliably in bypass chambers, stilling wells and foaming products
  • 4–20 mA HART 7, PROFIBUS PA, FF; SIL2 (SIL3 redundant); ATEX, IECEx, FM, CSA

Typical applications

  • Oil/water interface in separators and desalters
  • Level in bypass chambers replacing displacers
  • LPG, LNG and cryogenic vessels
  • Boiler drums and high-pressure vessels

Frequently asked questions

When is guided-wave radar better than non-contact radar?

When the product has a very low dielectric constant (LPG, solvents), when a bypass chamber or stilling well is used, when there is dense foam, or when interface between two liquids must be measured. Non-contact radar is preferred for aggressive products, agitated vessels and where a probe cannot be installed.

Can the probe be shortened on site?

Yes. Rod and cable probes can be cut to length during installation and the sensor re-parameterized; we also supply pre-cut probes to the dimension you specify.

Is the VEGAFLEX 81 available from stock, and what is the lead time?

Typical factory lead time is 2–4 weeks; HTHP versions longer. We confirm with the quotation.

Send us a part number, a BOM or a drawing.

Our engineers reply within one business day with availability, lead time and alternatives where they save you cost or time.
