Overview
The Keyence IL series is a CMOS multi-function analog laser sensor for measuring height, thickness, position and flatness with a simple two-piece design: a sensor head and a DIN-rail amplifier. The IL-300 head has a reference distance of 300 mm and a measuring range of 160–450 mm with 30 µm repeatability; its CMOS array and "HSE" processing give stable results on metal, black rubber and glossy surfaces. The IL-1000 amplifier provides a ±5 V or 4–20 mA analog output, two comparator outputs, and calculation modes such as thickness (two heads) and step. Amplifiers can be linked for multi-head measurement and connected to a PLC via the DL-series communication units (EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, RS-232C).

Do I need one amplifier per head?
Yes. Each IL head connects to its own IL-1000/IL-1500 amplifier; amplifiers are linked side by side for calculations such as thickness (head A + head B).
Can the measurement go directly to a PLC?
With a DL-EP1 (EtherNet/IP) or DL-PN1 (PROFINET) communication unit the measured values and settings are read over the network; otherwise the 4–20 mA output feeds an analog input card.
